Junior Thescon is coming up on December 11th at the Denver Convention Center! This event is a wonderful opportunity for middle school students to explore, learn, and grow in theatre. We will take the Lightrail downtown early in the morning, attend workshops, support performers from our school, and immerse ourselves in all theatre has to offer! Students can either:
PERFORM a monologue or musical theatre selection and receive professional feedback from theatre educators,
OR
ATTEND to watch performances, join valuable workshops, and see a featured show—usually presented by an outstanding high school program.
Either way, it’s an enriching experience for any student interested in theatre.
Important Notes for Participation:
All students who wish to perform must also sign up for this Thescon Workshop ECA . This ensures they receive the preparation and support needed. Students will receive guidance in selecting their piece (as needed), coaching, mentorship opportunities, and a supportive community to cheer them on at the event. Two class options will be offered—one at CP and one at MB—and students from either campus are welcome to enroll at whichever location works best for them.
MB - Wednesdays - Oct 8th & 22nd, and Nov 5th, Dec 3rd
CP - Thursdays - Oct. 23rd,November 6th,20th, and Dec 4th
Students attending for the first time (whether performing or not) must sign up for this Thescon Workshop ECA. This helps us keep communication streamlined and make sure they’re included in all pre-conference information.
Students attending who have attended before but are NOT performing this year are not required to sign up for this Thescon Workshop ECA (but are welcome to if they want more coaching opportunities!). Please make sure to reach out to Ms. Rusten (arusten@aak8.org) to let her know so that you are included in communication!
TECH THEATRE STUDENTS: DO NOT register for the Thescon Workshop this year unless you're interested in just the performance prep. However, 6-8th grade Tech Theatre students are strongly encouraged to sign up for the Thescon field trip! While there are competitions for Tech students, because we’ve never competed before, this year we want them to experience what it’s all about—so they can get excited and prepared for next year’s opportunities. They will also get an opportunity to join various workshops on lighting, sound, stage crew, etc. Please email Ms. Rusten (arusten@aak8.org) if interested.
5th graders are welcome to sign up for the ECA to see what it's all about but would not be able to attend the field trip until 6th grade.
Please note: This Thescon Workshop is a different sign up than the field trip registration which will be sent out in October. Parents will be more than welcome to register and join us!
