Parents and Students:

We are proud to continue our partnership with Destination Imagination in 2018-19. All students are invited to participate and we are excited to extend participation this year to include credit for students enrolled in STEM or Performing Arts Certification. Destination Imagination (DI) is an educational program that teaches creativity, teamwork, life skills, and problem-solving all in the context of a competitive and critical thinking format. It is a fun and interesting way to experience STEM related fields, alongside theatrical style presentations and storytelling. DI teams meet together weekly (schedule is determined by the team leader) to solve a chosen challenge and then present and compete at a regional tournament on March 10, 2019. Teams that place 1st-3rd at that tournament qualify to compete at Colorado State Destination Imagination tournament on April 7th and may earn an opportunity to qualify for the DI Global Finals in Knoxville, TN May 23-26.

For a successful program, we are hoping to identify parents who are willing to serve as Team Managers. No special skills are required, only a willingness to invest a couple of hours per week from January May. This is a student led activity, and team managers only provide minimal support and oversight. The kids do most of the heavy lifting! Please email Mr. Middlebrooks if you are interested in leading a team of 5 students.

We are hosting a DI information night on Tuesday, December 18th from 6:30 7:30 pm at the CASTLE PINES Library (please use the Library exterior door) for students and parents.. Siblings are welcome to join the orientation as well (even if they are younger than 5th grade!) If your family is not able to attend, let us know and we will find another way to showcase this outstanding programming for all who are interested.

REFUNDS: Because American Academy teachers run our extracurricular activities based on the number of sign-ups prior to the activity, all activity fees are non-refundable unless the teacher needs to cancel the activity due to low enrollment.

LATE ENROLLMENT OR MISSED ATTENDANCE: Timely enrollment and regular attendance for each activity is the responsibility of the parent and the student. The activity fee does not reflect the number of days your student attends the activity; rather, the activity fee is a flat fee budgeted to cover the costs to the school and the teacher for each activity that runs, and is the same for each student enrolled in that activity, regardless of the number of days the student attends. For this reason, American Academy does not prorate activity fees for late enrollments or give refunds to students not in attendance each day of the activity.
